Predictions for the 129th French Open and Stanley Cup Finals

The 23 year old Italian Jannik Sinner tries to make a miraculous comeback from an unjustified suspension and emerge victorious at Roland Garros. (Photo courtesy of The BBC).

The 129th French Open at Roland Garros moves into the semifinals for both the men and the women starting Thursday with the women’s semis beginning at 8 A.M CT and the men’s Friday at 8 A. M. CT, both on TNT and TruTV. The Finals will be at 8 A.M. Saturday for the women, and the Men’s Final will be Sunday at 8 A.M. Both will also be broadcast by TNT and truTV.

Here are my Predictions for the Men’s and Women’s Semifinals and Finals at Roland Garros in Paris.

Men’s Semifinals, Friday, 7:30 A.M. CT, TNT, TruTV

Jannik Sinner over Novak Djokovic, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5

Carlos Alvaraz over Lorenzo Musseti, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2

Men’s Championship, Sunday, 8 A.M. TNT, TruTV

Jannik Sinner over Carlos Alvaraz, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 7-5.

Men’s Champion

I’ll take the 23 year old from Innichen, South Tyrol, Italy. Viva Italia. This

will be his 4th major victory. He won the 2024 and 2025 Aussie Open

and the 2024 U.S. Carlos will be a load, but I like Jannik to return

strongly from his unwarranted 3 month suspension after the Australian

for a substance that was rubbed on him inadvertently by his physio

therapist.

Jannik Sinner

Women’s Semifinals

Iga Świątek over Aryna Sabalenka, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8)

Coco Gauff over Lois Boisson, 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-5

Women’s Final, Saturday, 8 A.M. TNT, TruTV

Swiatek over Gauff, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3

Women’s Champion

Iga Świątek

The 24 year old from Warsaw, Poland wins her fifth French Open and 6th Grand Slam championship.

She’s won at Roland Garros in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. This would be her fourth French Championship in

a row. She also won the 2022 U.S. Open.

Stanley Cup Finals Prediction

Florida Panthers over Edmonton Oilers in 7

Conn Smythe Award winner- most valuable player in the Stanley Cup

Playoffs. Named after a coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the

day-that’s about all I know on that.

Sergei Bobrovsky

The 36 year old goal keeper from Nuvokuznetsk (think that’s right), Russia (not the most favored country) has

been terrific in the the postseason. I see that continuing in the Finals.

The veteran goalie for the Panthers, Bobrovsky, gets it done for his team in the Stanley Cup Finals. (Photo courtesy of For the Win-USA Today).

  1. DW-Thanks for the always informative preview. I like your picks especially coming off your Vandy SEC baseball pick.

  2. DW. Great Tennis info and NHL prediction.
I’ve been watching the French a lot. Great tennis. Boisson is certainly a great story.
Good hockey starting tonight. Lightning fan here, not a Panthers fan, but they’re tough.
    Kucherov wins Lindsay Award! Thanks.

  3. Djokovic surprised me yesterday and his match with Sinner should be a classic. I agree with you on your Sinner pick but can never underestimate Novak or Carlos. I’m not a Sabalenka fan and pulling for Swiatek. Gauff is playing great so can’t count her out either.
