Bama/UT, Auburn/GA., key SEC games and national blockbusters this week on the slate in CFB, Week 7

Would like to see this guy get the ball more for the Crimson Tide. (Photo of EJ Crowell courtesy of Yahoo Sports.)

College Football Week 7 is the best week of the season so far, and it may be the best weekend all year though week 10 is strong as well with the Crimson Tide @ LSU among other games. But this weekend has more blockbusters. Here are previews and predictions.

Last week, SU: 9-5, overall, 84-24, 78%. ATS: 7-7, 56-52, 52%. O/U: 7-7, 62-46, 57%.

All games are Central time and all games on Saturday unless otherwise listed.

Crimson Tide by 8 1/2, 51 1/2

The Crimson Tide faithful is still irate over the pathetic officiating last Saturday Night in Tuscaloosa that cost them a victory over Georgia. There was an pretty clear interception by QB Reese that was ruled an interception on the field and inexplicably overturned on review in the third quarter that would have put the Tide in the redzone, a face mask penalty that was missed. A targeting penalty by Georgia safety KJ Bolden on Ryan Coleman-Williams that was also inexplicably missed by this substandard crew. And the worst, was the missed pass interference call by the refs that cost the Tide from having the ball first and goal from the two yard line.

If a pass interference penalty occurs in the end zone from the 17 yard line to the goal line of the offending team in their territory, the ball is placed at that opponent’s two yard line.

Referee Kyle Olson’s crew was horrifically bad. On the missed pass interference call, back judge Tom Fimmen should have seen it and called it, center judge Chris Garner should have flagged it, line judge Chad Lorance missed it too, as did umpire Rod Tucker. That’s four flags that should have come out. Bolden of Georgia was the offender once again. It was a travesty and an embarrassment to officiating. The Crimson Tide deserved better. Georgia is good, but Alabama is the better team in my opinion. Georgia played a good game, but won because the officials were terrible. Those guys should be suspended.

But now the Crimson Tide has to turn the page and get ready for a tough one in Knoxville. I still like this team very much and see them handling business even with injuries to Coleman-Williams and starting center Racin Delgatty. Love what Kalen DeBoer is doing with his football team. A lot left to play for, for the Crimson Tide.

Bama-Georgia in a Premier contest, other SEC matchups look riveting. National slate is strong as well. Week 6 College Football Unplugged. Updated White’s World Playoff Projections

Nate Frazier is an elite and key player for Georgia Saturday Night. (Photo courtesy of Fox Sports).

The weather has been questionable all week for the game with a possibly serious situation taking place in Mobile, Pensacola and the Florida Panhandle this weekend with Hurricane Isaias aiming at the Florida/Alabama Gulf Coast. But the two elite voices of meteorology, Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel, and Jimmy Spanno of ABC 33/40, are predicting better outcomes with wind shear of 80 MPH working against Isaias, which could hopefully dissipate the strength of this storm.

Very hopeful and prayerful that Mobile and the Florida Panhandle get spared from a potentially serious situation.

As for the games this weekend, weather could be a factor, but not likely as serious as it looked earlier this week, especially for the No.6 Crimson Tide and the No.2 Georgia Bulldogs.

The Crimson Tide/Georgia game is the obvious headliner. Nick Saban called Georgia “the most complete team in the country” a couple of weeks ago on GameDay, but Kirby Smart is not buying that, calling it a bait and switch move by the former Crimson Tide coach.

He thinks Saban was pulling a little gamesmanship as Saban is still an employee at Alabama making almost $50K a month. Could be some real truth to that, though Georgia was looking pretty strong a couple of weeks ago. They’ll have running back Nate Frazier back, which will really help their cause. However, second stringer Chauncey Bowens is out. The Crimson Tide looks somewhat healthy, but there are some injuries on defense, though none that made a difference against Mississippi State last Saturday in a spectacular effort on both sides of the ball.

So here’s a look at this clash of the Titans and who I like to emerge along with the other key SEC games including the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl featuring the No.1 Texas Longhorns and the struggling Oklahoma Sooners.

Those games, the other SEC matchups, and some quality national competition are on the docket in an action packed Saturday in college football. The weather will need to cooperate at places including B’ham.

Here are my previews and predictions along with my playoff predictions below this week’s game capsules.

George McIntyre is expected to start at QB for the Vols as starter Faizon Brandon is questionable with a shoulder injury. They might be better off with McIntyre as Brandon really struggled against Auburn last Saturday and was benched in favor of McIntyre.

Vols running back DeSean Bishop was a beast last Saturday against the Tigers as he rushed for 220 on 34 totes with 3 TDs. He’s rushed for 540 yards this season on 88 carries, 6.1 per carry, with 7 TDs and he averages 108 per rushing yards per game. That’s impressive for a three-star out of high school in 2023 who came to Knoxville as a preferred walk-on.

I’m really sick and tired of Jeremiah Smith and some other players striking the Heisman pose after scoring touchdowns against inferior teams. That kid and a couple of others are showing a lot of arrogance, and after Texas shut him down in the second half in Austin and he dropped a couple of passes, Smith might think twice before acting so arrogantly against lesser competition. Key contests brewing in the SEC and Nationally in Week 5 of College Football. This week’s Playoff Predictions

Kamario Taylor is a major test for the Crimson Tide defense. (Photo courtesy of Instagram).

The No.7 Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers face serious assignments in conference play this Saturday as the Tide travels 85 miles west to Starkville and the Cow Bells, while the Tigers head north to Knoxville and encounter the Tennessee Vols and the “friendly” confines of Neyland Stadium. Both Neyland Stadium and Davis Wade Stadium will be rockin’.

Also in the SEC, Florida goes to Missouri, Kentucky travels to South Carolina, and Georgia, LSU, Arkansas and A&M are all in action. Texas, after their slugfest with Tennessee last Saturday, in which they prevailed, 20-17, a reeling Oklahoma team and an Ole Miss team that had their tails kicked at Gainesville, are all off.

Interesting national matchups on the Saturday lineup as well.

Here’s a look at the action this weekend along with predictions.

Crimson Tide by 5 1/2, 60 1/2

Keelon Russell has been a phenom the last two weeks for Alabama, completing 23-of-30 passes for 320 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions versus FSU, and going 21-of-27 for 365, 4 TDs and 0 ints against South Carolina last Saturday in Crimson Tide victories over those respective teams.

He’s also rushed for a TD in each of those games. For the season, he’s 78-of-110, 71%, for 1,129 yards, 8 TDs and 2 interceptions. He’s explosive, electric and has taken over the lead of this team in this so far successful season.

But Kamario Taylor ain’t no joke, either. The Mississippi State quarterback has completed 83-of-120 passes, 69%, for 1,192 yards, with 14 TDs against only 2 ints.

So, it’s a clash of the titans behind center on Saturday in Starkville The weather looked questionable up until today, but the forecast is looking much more promising.

I’m looking at a high powered, offensive game with the Crimson Tide prevailing in an SEC classic. Both quarterbacks will do well and they’ll be factors running the football also, which could be the difference as Russell makes one more big play than Taylor does.

National Championship Game

Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

6:30 P.M.

ESPN/ABC

As of today, I like Keelon Russell and the Crimson Tide to prevail in a classic over Gunner

Stockton and ‘Dem Dawgs. I like the Tide and Georgia to split the regular season and the SEC Championship Game, and for the third game of the triple-header to go to the Crimson Tide.

Alabama 27, Georgia 24

Most Valuable Player in National Championship Game

With the NFL season kicking off tonight, here are Postseason Predictions for the National Football League; Ben Shelton shocks the tennis world, Elite Southern Music Video

The National Football League kicks off tonight in Seattle with the New England Patriots squaring off with the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks at 7:20 CT on NBC. The Patriots get another shot at the Seahawks in a rematch of Super Bowl LX (60). It’s a tough assignment for the Pats.

Thursday, the 49ers play the Rams at Melbourne Cricket Ground? Down Under in Melbourne, Australia. Men at Work performing at halftime? They got a little age on them, so I doubt it.

The game kicks off at 7:35 P.M. on Netflix. All the games listed above and below are all on the Central time schedule.

Sunday’s key games include the Bears @ the Panthers, kicking off at 12 P.M. on FOX.

The Bills play @ the Texans at 12 P.M. on CBS.

At 3:25 P.M., the Packers play @ the Vikings on CBS.

Also at 3:25 P.M., the Commanders play @ the Eagles.

Sunday Night Football features How ’bout them Cowboys! @ the New Yawk Giants at 7:20 on NBC.

And on Monday Night Football, the Broncos play @ the Chiefs at 7:15 on ABC and E-S-P-N.

Here are my Postseason Predictions for the National Football League 2026-27 season including which teams I like to make the playoffs, who will win in the postseason, and which team will hoist the Lombardi Trophy as winners of Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA., essentially Los Angeles, where the Rams and Chargers play. ESPN will broadcast the Big Game.

In my Playoff Predictions in ’25-26, I was 7-6 Straight Up, 6-7 ATS, and 6-7 on the Over/Under.

Got the Seahawks over the Patriots straight up, ATS and got the O/U correctly in Super Bowl LX.

Seven teams qualify from each conference for a total of 14 Playoff teams. Top 4 teams are the division winners, with 3 wild cards in each conference, and seedings in the wild card round determined by final regular season records.

Super Bowl LXI

LA Rams vs. Denver Broncos

Two Super Bowl winning coaches in Sean Payton, who won it all in the 2009 season with the N’Awlins Saints in Super Bowl XLIV (44) at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, defeating the Indy Colts, 31-17, on February 7, 2010, and Sean McVay, who won it with the Rams in the 2021 season, on February 13, 2022 in Super Bowl LVI (56) at SoFi, defeating Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20. McVay was the youngest coach to ever win a Super Bowl at 36 years old. Payton will be 63 in the 2027 Super Bowl, while McVay will be 41.

I’ll take Super Bowl winning quarterback Matthew Stafford over a highly talented Broncos team and their young, stellar quarterback, Bo Nix. Stafford will be 39 years old at the Super Bowl, while Nix will be 26. I love the fact that the Rams have Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald on their defensive front. Donald, at 35, came out of retirement to run it back for the Rams again. The talent on both sides will be elite. Should be a classic.

Rams 24, Broncos 21

Ben Shelton pulls off the improbable. (Photo courtesy of Sky Sports-London).

The prolific Carlos Alcaraz appeared to be headed towards his 8th Grand Slam title at the 146th U.S. Open as he had matriculated into the quarterfinals last night with stellar play along the way. Carlos, after being out for four months due to a broken wrist, had found his form during play at Flushing Meadows in Queens and looked unbeatable. I took a risk before the Open thinking Carlos might be a little rusty and had Ben Shelton defeating him in the quarterfinals.

I have to admit, I wasn’t completely confident Ben could do it last night. This was classic David vs Goliath. But Ben brought his slingshot and slayed the giant as he defeated the great Alcaraz in 5 sets, 6-7, 6-1,6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7). I was asleep, but Beth got up to check. My wife is so passionate about tennis that she knows every player, man and woman, where they’re from, who they date or are married to, and if they have a dog.

I was waiting for her because I wanted to know if there was any chance Ben pulled it off. When she told me he did, I couldn’t go back to sleep I was so amped up. I ended up getting out of bed at 4:30 and had a text waiting for me from Derrick! It was at 1:39 A.M. and he sent me a video of Ben acing Carlos for the victory. It was magic.

Carlos was so classy in defeat, too. Couldn’t have been a better sport/prince of a guy. No doubt, Carlos will have many more appearances and opportunities to win Slams. But last night/this morning in the City that never sleeps, it was Ben’s day at the office.

I hope my daughters, who both live in Manhattan, were asleep, because they both had to work today! I’ll find out later this week. My son-in-law played tennis at W&L and is totally passionate about the sport as well, so he may be a little weary at the office today.

So it’s onto the semifinals for Ben. He’ll face the amazing ‘Foe, Frances Tiafoe, who came back from two sets down to defeat fellow American Alex Michelsen, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (10-6). ‘Foe was down 0-3 in the fifth and brought it all the way back. What an effort by the 28 year old from D.C.

The 22 year old Michelsen played his heart out too, but just came up a little short.

So it’s an All-American semifinal in one semi, and I’m not even thinking Alexander Zverev will be challenged on the other side and will make the final, where I’m predicting he’ll face Ben, who escapes Frances in 4 sets.

I like Ben over Zverev 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. It’ll be a classic as the German and reigning French Open champion will be a tough out.

But give me the 23 year old from Atlanta, by way of the University of Florida, where he had a cup of coffee and won the NCAA singles championship in 2022. This would be an awesome story for the American.

A very interesting fact that commenter Carter Dukes told me. CD is the only guy in Birmingham who has a victory over Ben Shelton’s dad, Bryan, who is a superb guy and also Ben’s coach. CD did it 47 years ago. Incredible, CD.

Have Coco Gauff over Aryna Sabalenka in my women’s final, and that’s still viable.

So far, so good.

But Coco has some tough matches ahead of her to reach the final. Sabalenka is already in the semis where she’ll face Jesse Pegula. The great Gauff plays Russian phenom Mirra Andreeva today in the quarterfinals after Elena Rybikana and Qinwen Zheng finish their quarterfinal match. If she can get by Mirra, she’ll face the Rybikana/Zheng winner in the semis.

So Coco has her work cut out for her. But I believe in her.
