Our Vanderbilt Basketball team secured a major road victory last night at Pittsburgh behind our 5’9″ 165 pound guard Trey Thomas, who shoots it like Steph Curry. Trey is a total stud and finished with 14 points including 4 huge trifectas in the last 12 minutes of the game to lead us to a 68-52 victory over Pittsburgh on the road. We moved to 4-1 with the victory and face Mississippi Valley State next on Monday at Memorial at 7 PM CT on ESPN+ and SEC Network+. Pipp added 11, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jordan Wright, who has become a terrific player for us, chipped in 9 and led the team in rebounding with 7.
I really like our team. Quentin Millora-Brown, our 6’10” center, is doing an excellent job with his size, altering shots and making shots. Quentin is a highly skilled player. Myles Stute, Tyrin Lawerence, Jamaine Mann and Terren Frank are very good players as well. Shane Dezonie and Gabe Dorsey are freshmen who are going to be good players for us, which includes this season. We’ve got a team that can make the tournament. Our only loss is to VCU and they just defeated Syracuse yesterday in the Bahamas at the Bad Boy Motors Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, so they’re for real. They won 67-55. They play defending national champion and No.6 Baylor today in the Bahamas at 4 PM CT on ESPN.
I like how Stack is developing this group and how Scottie is leading it. Would love to get our big man Minnesota transfer, 7’0 Liam Robbins, back on the floor in the future. It may be a little while, I’m guessing maybe January or early February, hopefully sooner, and we’re also missing point guard Rodney Chatman, who should be back sooner than that, but we’re doing well with the players we’ve got. They’re a talented, focused group.
So good stuff going on with our bball team. Like the way we’re progressing.
Football @ Tennessee Saturday at 2:45 PM CT on the SEC Network.
I didn’t like what our football team did in the second half against Ole Miss last Saturday, I loved it. We took it to them and were the more physical team. Clark is changing the culture, our guys are buying in, and we’ve got a shot in that city in the East. I like us to play well. Quarterback Mike Wright has the heart of a champion, and our defense is starting to play lights out. We’re building for a bright future under Clark, but want our seniors, Cam Johnson, Chris Pierce etc. to go out as winners. They have been winners as student-athletes, and have been through some tough times, so they deserve to go out on a winning note and then pursue their bright futures on the next level or in promising professional careers.
A final note, Dansby Swanson and Kyle Wright were instrumental in leading the Atlanta Braves to their first World Series title in 26 years (1995) as Dans cranked a pair of homers, one critical one in game 4, and another key one in game 6, and Kyle pitched 5 shutdown innings in game 4 to lead the Braves to the World Championship. Proud of both of them, and proud for Corbs and the program. Like our 2022 squad. We’ve got a real shot to make it to Omaha and doing well there. Will be on our baseball team in January. A lot to be excited about with this group as always.
Men’s Golf looks highly promising under Coach Scott Limbaugh. We’ve got a couple of stud freshmen to go along with some talented upperclassmen. Looking forward to keeping you posted on Men’s Golf in the spring.
God Bless, Happy Thanksgiving and Anchor Down!

David , happy thanksgiving! I was at the Ole Miss game and I agree ; we played them even in the second half snd I honestly don’t remember us running the ball that well against an SEC opponent. It was fun to watch . Makes me hopeful for next year and even have a shot tomorrow. Best, Jack
Thanks, Jake!
