Pedro hit a couple of doubles and had two RBis last night as he helped lead the Pirates to a 10-5 victory over the Giants in San Francisco. Pedro struck out three times, so he needs to keep working on that, but overall had a good night. Hitting the ball well right now and playing very good defense. Pete now has 85 RBIs and 13 doubles. Getting more extra base hits now besides homers. Bucs now 75-52, one game over the Cards who beat the Braves last night, 6-2. Bucs 2 1/2 over Reds.Braves now 77-50 and have a 14 game lead in the NLEast. Tough thing about Jason Heyward getting hit in the face and breaking a couple of bones in his jaw. Feel bad for Jason. But he’ll be back for the playoffs, so if the Braves can just hang tough without him, they’ll have him back for the postseason. Braves at Cards tonight. Mike on the hill Sunday. Bucs at Giants again. Bucs had 13 hits. Good night at the plate. They have it in them. They have good hitters.
Rays a game back of BoSox and play the red hot Yankees at home tonight and through the weekend. Dave on the hill tomorrow night vs. CC. I’m not a huge fan of A-Rod, but I felt bad for him when Ryan Dempster hit him in the side Sunday Night. And you know what, it fueled a fire in the Yankees, they went on to beat the Sox that night and haven’t lose all week. They’re getting dangerous. Dempster got a five game suspension which is kind of a joke because he won’t miss a turn with days off. Sox at Dodgers tonight. Very interesting weekend with some key series.Dodgers playing incredible baseball and are at 73-52 now. Sox in LA this weekend.
Sonny on the hill Monday Night at Detroit. A’s a game and a half back of the Rangers. They are 71-54 and Texas is 73-53.A’s at Baltimore O’s this weekend and Rangers are at White Sox. Ryan Flaherty (’08) playing some for the O’s at second base. Had an RBI single off the Rays Tuesday Night. Hitting at a .364 clip in his last seven. Good to see Ryan play well. Corbs told me that O’s manager Buck Showalter really likes Ryan.
D.J. Moore with a 33-yard pick six for the Carolina Panthers. It was a beautiful play by D.J. D.J. came over to the Panthers from the Bears this past offseason. Hate that he’s not a Bear, but it looks like our former cornerback may have found a home as a nickel at Carolina. Carolina has a good team. Cam Newton is playing very well and their linebacker Luke Kuechly won the game for the Panthers over the Raves last night with a beautiful hit that caused a fumble that was recovered for a score and he intercepted a Joe Flacco pass that was a drive killer. Great second year player out of Boston College. Excellent football player. Carolina beat the Ravens at Baltimore 34-27. They’ve got a good squad.
Casey Heyward in action tonight for the Packers who host the Seahawks. Really enjoying the preseason games. In this third game the starters are playing into the third quarter. They’re getting serious.
Will have some football stuff on Monday. Brandt at +3 at the Barclays. Struggling a little. The cut is at even right now. It’s an excellent leaderboard with Webb Simpson on top and Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler a couple back. They are finished. Brandt needs to heat up some. Through four. Tiger playing well. @ -7. Webb done at -9. Keegan Bradley also at -7. Should be pretty awesome weekend in Jersey City.
