Casey had a pick last night. The Packers secondary coach, Joe Whitt Jr., had said Casey was fourth on the depth chart going into the game because he had missed a month with a hamstring pull. But Casey made a nice play on the tipped ball. He also had a tackle. Casey had six ints last year, so I would think he could get a starting job or at least a lot of playing time when the season starts. He started at nickel back, the fifth defensive back, most of last season. He’s a playmaker. He should be pretty much a starter once the season opens. Packers lost to Seahawks, 17-10 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay last night. ARodg played a quarter and a half. Russell Wilson of the Seahawks played a good two quarters. Seahawks have a very good defense and the Pack looked good on defense. Those two teams will be in the thick of the Super Bowl hunt this season.
Brandt finished up his round today and missed the cut at the Barclays by one shot. He shot even for his second round with birdies on 16 and 17, but missed the cut (even) by a shot. Brandt had nine birdies in two days, but also had 10 bogeys. He’s projected to drop to fifth on the Fed Ex rankings after this weekend. Matt Kuchar is leading at -11. Brandt will be in the field at the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston next week. Think B’s close again. Encouraged by those two late birdies. He fought hard through what looked like a lower back issue yesterdey.
Dave on the hill tonight for the Rays against C.C. of Yanks. Rays beat Bombers 7-2 last night. Rays percentage points ahead of BoSox in AL East now. BoSox lost to Dodgers last night, 2-0. A’s lost to Orioles, 9-7. A’s 3.5 back of Rangers in the AL West. Rangers beat ChiSox last night. Ryan Flaherty dh’d for O’s and was one-for-four. Braves lost to Cards again, 3-1, and the Bucs beat the Giants, 3-1. Bucs a game up on the Cards. Pedro did not play against Giants left hander Madison Bumgardner last night. Clint Hurdle gave ‘Dro the night off because he had played in 70 of the last 71 games and his practice routine had been very intense all during that time. Sounds like Pedro is really working hard. Very proud of him. Starting to pay off.
Braves 13 ahead of Nationals in NL East. Tough break on Jason Heyward. But he will be back for the playoffs, assuming the Braves are there which is a pretty easy assumption. Just need to get back on track.
Sonny and Mike are both on the hill tomorrow; Sonny at Baltimore and Mike at St. Louis. Both teams need to get it turned around, particularly the A’s. Happy for Ryan Flaherty though. Orioles are a very good team.
The St. Louis Rams are @ the Denver Broncos tonight and it’ll be interesting to see if Zac Stacy can get some action. Would love to see Zac get a shot to prove himself. I’m sure he’ll get some action. He’s had some general soreness in his leg and missed last week’s game at the Pack. Hopefully he can play tonight.
