College Football Week 3 DOES look Electric. This week’s Previews/Predictions; Playoff Predictions

The No. 19 Crimson Tide and the No.24 Auburn Tigers square off with Wisconsin and South Alabama, respectively, this Saturday with both teams playing at home. Good chance for both teams to show more progress as they get closer to SEC play, which is two weeks away for Tide, and a week away for the Tigers. After a week off next Saturday, the Crimson Tide will travel to No.6 Georgia on Saturday, 9/27, for a Saturday Night game on ABC at 6:30. The Tigers will venture to Norman to play the dangerous Oklahoma Sooners next Saturday, 9/20, for a 2:30 P.M. kickoff on ABC. So both teams need to perform well this Saturday, against a couple of scrappy opponents, in order to prepare themselves for the gauntlet that is the SEC. There are also some key conference games this Saturday as the No.6 Georgia Bulldogs travel to Neyland Stadium to take on No.15 Tennessee. That’s a marquee matchup with SEC and national implications on the line, despite the fact that it’s an early season game. Those teams don’t like each other very much anyway, so that’s an added motivational bonus. No.3 LSU hosts Florida and its all of the sudden and once again embattled coach, Billy Napier, who is desperately seeking a victory. The Gators have the toughest schedule in the country according to ESPN Analytics. No.17 Ole Miss, fresh off a crucial road victory over Kentucky last Saturday, hosts Arkansas. And Vanderbilt travels to South Carolina for a Saturday Night matchup in Williams-Brice Stadium. Williams-Brice will be rockin’. And a classic matchup in South Bend as the No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies square off with the No.8 Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Also, some top level teams in action facing some not so stellar competition. Here’s a look at the slate along with White’s World Sports Confidential’s predictions.

Last Week: SU: 15-3; Overall 32-8, 80%; ATS: 7-11; 17-23, 43%, O/U, 7-11; 20-20, 50%.

All games Saturday; All times are Central

Wisconsin (2-0) @ No. 19 Alabama (1-1)

Bryant-Denny Stadium, 101, 821

ABC

Tess, Jess, Katie

Tide by 21 1/2, O/U, 46 1/2

I know it was LA-Monroe, but you had to like what you saw in a 73-0 Crimson Tide victory. Ty Simpson was 17 of 17 for 226, 3 passing TDs and one rushing TD. Backup Austin Mack was 8 of 10 for 80 yards and 2 TDs, And five-star freshman Keelon Russell was 4 of 6 for 65 yards and 2 TDs. The receivers played well, the running backs did a good job, and the defense, led by middle linebacker Justin Jefferson, swarmed to the ball and laid the wood. Wisconsin is a physical but plodding Big Ten-type team that has trouble keeping up with the athletic, speedy teams from the SEC. They had trouble with the Crimson Tide last season at home in a 42-10 Crimson Tide victory. I like the Crimson Tide to have success in front of the hometown fans this Saturday as well.

Alabama 38, Whiskey 10 (Brombey’s team after the Hombre victory last Sunday partook in some)

Justin Jefferson had a very nice interception last Saturday Night vs ULM. (Photo courtesy of Facebook).

South Alabama (1-1) @ No. 24 Auburn (2-0)

Tigers by 24 1/2; 55 1/2

Jackson Arnold was 24 of 28 for 251 yards and three TDs against Ball State last Saturday Night on the Plains. He looks like he can throw it pretty accurately. South Alabama offers more resistance, so we’ll see how Jackson responds against the Jaguars. Buck linebacker/defensive end Keyon Crawford is proving to be an excellent bookend to Kendrick Faulk. Crawford posted four tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble last Saturday. I like the way Hugh has the Tigers coming together. I like them to have a solid game against the Jaguars and prepare for a massive road contest at Norman next Saturday.

Auburn 38, South AL. 7

No.6 Georgia (2-0) @ No.15 Tennessee (2-0)

Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, 101,915

2:30 P.M.

ABC

Chris, Kirk, Holly

Dawgs by 3 1/2; 49 1/2

Give me Josh Huepel and his Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium. Joey Aguilar has been an upgrade from defector Nico Iamaleava, who has been a bust so far out in La La Land. Should be a classic SEC slugfest.

Tennessee 24, Georgia 21

Florida (1-1) @ No. 3 LSU (2-0)

Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, 102,321

6:30 P.M.

ABC

Sean, Gregory, Molly

LSU by 7 1/2; 47 1/2

I like a close game here with the Gators coming up just a little short to Coach Kelly and his Tigers.

LSU 21, Florida 20

Arkansas (2-0) @ No. 17 Ole Miss (2-0)

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, 64, 038

Dave, Dusty, Taylor

Rebels by 7 1/2; 61 1/2

This is one of those SEC rivalry games where strange things transpire. Still like Lane’s team a lot. Solid victory at Kentucky last Saturday.

Ole Miss 35, Arkansas 27

Vanderbilt (2-0) @ No. 11 South Carolina (2-0)

Fighting Irish by 6 1/2; 49 1/2

I’ll take the Irish in a street fight.

Notre Dame 23, A&M 20

Sooners by 21 1/2; 51 1/2

I think there’s a bit of a hangover for the Sooners in between their massive victory over Michigan last Saturday at home and the upcoming contest in Norman versus the Auburn Tigers. The Sooners “matriculate,” however.

No. 7 Texas 45, UTEP 3

DKR Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX

Longhorns by 40 1/2; 52 1/2

I still have concerns about Arch Manning’s throwing mechanics and maybe the pressure is just too much for him right now. Cupcake for the Longhorns nonetheless as they get ready for Sam Houston State? to invade Austin next Saturday. After a bye week, they’ll play @ Florida and then the Red River Rivalry versus the Sooners Saturday, 11/11, at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Big D at 2:30 P.M.CT on ABC or ESPN. Big day that day. Joseph “Bama Golf’s”birthday that day as well.

No.25 Missouri 42, Louisiana 14

Memorial Stadium, Columbia, MO.

Mizzou by 27 1/2; 47 1/2

Eli has his team playing very well after an impressive 42-31 victory over Kansas last Saturday afternoon in Columbia.

Mississippi State 52, Alcorn State 3

Davis Wade Stadium, Starkvegas

5 P.M.

ESPN+/SECN+

State by 43 1/2, O/U 55 1/2

The Bullies put on a terrifically impressive last minute 24-20 comeback victory over then No. 12 Arizona State last Saturday Night with the cowbells blaring in Davis Wade. I like what Jeff Lebby is doing in Starkville.

Kentucky 38, Eastern Michigan 10

Kroger Field, Lexington, KY.

6:30 P.M.

ESPNU

Wildcats by 24 1/2; 47 1/2

Mark Stoops struggles with offense, but has enough at home this Saturday.

National Contests

No. 5 Miami 24, No.18 South Florida 21

Hard Rock, Miami Gardens

3:30 P.M.

The CW Network. What is this a doubleheader with the LIV Tour or did they move to FOX? They did but who cares about the LIV Tour. It’s Soap Opera central.

Canes by 17 1/2; 57 1/2

The Bulls are tough. I like them to give Miami everything they want. They just knocked off Florida last Saturday on the road. I like their road warrior mentality to continue.

No.1 Ohio State 42, Ohio 10

Ohio Stadium, Columbus

6 P.M.

Peacock

Buckeyes by 30 1/2; 51 1/2

I know there’s something to playing an in-state team, but I like the Buckeyes to keep their winning ways cranking.

No. 4 Oregon 45, Northwestern 10

Martin Stadium, Evanston, Illinois

11 A.M.

FOX

Gus, Joel, Jenny

Ducks by 28 1/2; 48 1/2

Dan Lanning put Phil Knight’s money where his mouth is last Saturday; Ducks 69, OK ST. 3.

No. 21 Texas Tech 48, Oregon State 21

Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX.

2:30 P.M.

FOX

Red Raiders by 23 1/2; 61 1/2

These Red Raiders look for real to me. They’re the most expensive roster in college football. I guess sometimes you get what you pay for.

Playoff 12; as always, this is a fluid bracket.

1. Ohio State, 2. LSU, 3. Oregon, 4. Florida State (off this week) 5. Tennessee, 6. Penn State, 7. Georgia, 8. Miami, 9. Iowa State, 10. Ole Miss, 11. Oklahoma, 12. South Florida.

First Round Games at higher seed’s home field.

No. 12 South Florida @ No.5 Tennessee

No.11 Oklahoma @ No.6 Penn State

No.10 Ole Miss @ No.7 Georgia

No.9 Iowa State @ No.8 Miami

Winners: Tennessee, Penn State, Georgia and Miami

Quarterfinals

No.1 Ohio State over No.5 Tennessee

No.2 LSU over No.6 Penn State

No.7 Georgia over No.3 Oregon

No.4 FSU over No. 8 Miami

Semifinals

No.1 Ohio State over No.4 FSU

No.7 Georgia over No. 2 LSU

National Championship Game, Monday, 1/19/26, 6:30 P.M. ABC

No. 7 Georgia 24, No.1 Ohio State 21

National Champion: Georgia

Still haven’t backed off of Georgia despite predicting them to lose to Tennessee this Saturday. Just so tough in the SEC and has your team exceedingly prepared for the postseason. Georgia’ll be there at the end. Kirby’ll make sure of that.

  1. I look for Bama’s speed and the heat to take over their game. AU will physically dominate the Jags of USA. I like that you are riding the Vandy train, Williams Brice is a tough place to play, but Vandy did dominate Va tech in the 2nd half, so they can certainly pull it out in Columbia.

  2. Winning your home games in the SEC is going to be crucial in matriculating the schedule successfully. Let’s see who can hold serve this week.

  3. Thanks for the previews and analysis, DW! Like your Vols pick! I believe they have a great shot to beat Georgia this weekend.

  4. I actually agree with all your picks for winners. I could see an upset in Oxford but think you are likely right. I agree Vandy beats the Cocks.

  5. Improvement needed after the scalping from the Seminoles. Last week’s opponent was a high school all-star team. Whiskey Wisconsin will bring more talent to Tuscaloosa. The odds makers may be drinking the Kool-aid of the home field heat. We will see. Hope I do not wish I was on a dove shoot. May all your six-footers fall DW. Spike Me Up

  6. Just getting it started here in Tampa.
Great game write ups,..Thank you. Most helpful.
    War Eagle. Vandy! USF Bulls!
    Take care.
