What a Super Bowl. The scenario where Ahmad Bradshaw is supposed to fall down on the one puzzles me a little bit. New England left the hole open left with a 50 seconds to go for Bradshaw to score which was good strategy. I just don’t see how a running back who is running 10 mph is supposed to, at full speed, stop himself and drop down on the one. I’m sure he was told that by his coaches, so maybe he should have, but I see that as being hard to execute. What if he does fall down on the one and Eli fumbles the snap or Bradshaw fumbles the exchange or the holder can’t handle a bad snap, though that Weatherford is the best holder in the business. There are too many variables that can happen if you don’t score a touchdown. It’s like fouling late when the other team has a shot at a three-pointer shot to tie it. Maybe that’s considered smart by some, but I don’t think it’s the way the game of basketball should be played. The great coaches usually don’t foul. The same thing with football. I don’t know how you don’t score a touchdown there. It makes the Patriots go down the field with one timeout left and score a touchdown to win it. A field goal won’t do it. It’s hard for me to argue with scoring a touchdown. I know there are some who will say he almost lost the game because Brady with the ball with a timeout and 40 seconds left is pretty lethal. I get that. But I can’t argue with scoring a touchdown when it makes the other team have to score a touchdown to win or lose the game. I don’t fault Bradshaw for that. He did try to stop himself, but that’s hard to do for any player. It’s just not the way the game is played in my opinion. I know there are some who disagree with me, but I like touchdowns. Not scoring a touchdown and not taking the lead by four is risky.
Anyway, Eli was all-world. I love the guy. Class family, class guy. He’s just about in the same class with Brady right now. He is right there. If he wins another Super Bowl, he’ll be equal to Brady. And he might win a couple more. Mario Manningham with a beautiful, 38-yard catch at the sideline on the Giants go ahead touchdown drive. Play of the game. What concentration and footwork by Manningham. The Giants receivers are beautiful.
Commercials were good. My favorite was the Car Max one where the African American man was trying to decide if he wanted to buy a car and his conscious came out and started to singing to him to buy the car. That was beautiful. The dog in the Bud Light commercial was great. Bud Light always has entertaining commercials. The man getting chased down and attacked by the leopard was pretty hilarious, too. The Clint Eastwood one was optimistic about Detroit and the country. Wasn’t my favorite. Part of it seemed a little too staged, but it was positive.
These halftime shows need to be reigned in. They’re out of control. We need people who are going to play music and refrain from these gross gestures. They need to get bands that are going to play music and put on a classy show. They’re out of control.
Didn’t get a chance to talk to ESPN’s Jamie Newberg, he was unavailable, but got a good read on recruting. Alabama finished number one in the country. They’re loaded for the future. Texas, Florida State, Florida and Ohio State did well among others. Auburn finished strong and added five- star o lineman (Scout, four star, ESPN 150 by ESPN and four star by Rivals) Jordan Diamond on Friday. Auburn did well in linemen recruiting. Still seeing if they can get four star olinemen out of Colorado to sign and five-star wide receiver Stefon Diggs will announce Friday. Auburn competing with Maryland, Michigan and Ohio State for his services. I’m sure others are going to come in the picture this week.
‘Bama with five-star safety Eddie Williams, five star db Landon Collins and five star running back T.J. Yeldon (Rivals). Loaded up at a lot of positions. Four, 4- star defensive tackles. High four star wideouts in Chris Black and Amari Cooper and three-star qb, Alec Morris. He’s 6’3″, 240. Big boy. I think they like him. Spring coming up. Alabama Spring game April 14. Auburn not announced yet. Will be fun and edifying on the teams.
Watched Auburn game and taped Alabama bball game on Saturday. Auburn gave it a good run against a very good State team. Alabama hanging tough. Looks like they have it back together in their quest for a tourney bid. I love Trevor Releford. The guy is outstanding. JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell look like they’re back and Andrew Steele gives the team good leadership. Should be an exciting month leading up to March. Kentucky looked pretty awesome Saturday Night. Wasn’t convinced this Ky team is as good as last year or two years ago, but they were very impressive on Saturday Night. They look pretty special. But Florida, Vandy, State, Alabama, Arkansas and even Ole Miss are very good teams. LSU can be good on some nights as can Tennessee, but mostly at home. Looking forward to the stretch run.
College baseball getting started in a week and a half. Florida was picked preseason one by Baseball America. Think defending national champion South Carolina is three, Arkansas four, LSU is eight and Vandy is 10 and there are some others who will be in the mix. Should be another riveting SEC sport.
Watched Moneyball Saturday Night. Terrific movie. Brad Pitt was outstanding as Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane. Highly recommend it.
