DP, Sonny, Pedro more about our baseball team

DP pitched Thursday vs the Astros and didn’t get the decision, but pitched pretty well overall. He went 6.2 innings, gave up five hits, three runs, two earned, with one walk and 12 K’s, He threw 100 pitches, 69 for strikes with 31 balls. Didn’t get to watch it but will tomorrow afternoon most likely. The Tigers did beat the Astros, 6-5 in 10. David left with a 5-3 lead, but the bullpen couldn’t hold. Tigers won, but it would have been nice for David to get the W. Price now 3-1, with a 3.32 ERA 13 walks and 54 K’s. His WHIP is 1.21 (Walks, hits per innings pitched) which is excellent. Anything under 1.30 is excellent. Will have more on Whip on Tuesday.

Sonny, who is 4-2 with a 1.92 ERA a 1.02 Whip (outstanding), 18 walks and 57 K’s goes against the Rays today. Sonny going against Erasmo Ramirez of the Rays, who’s started four games this year, but has no decision and a 6.44 ERA, so it would seem like Sonny and the A’s have the advantage. The Rays are playing well, though the A’s shut them out 5-0 yesterday. Rays leading the AL East at 24-20, 1.5 games ahead of the 22-21 Yankees. Sonny and the A’s are 15-30 after yesterday’s victory, so maybe that’s a start. The A’s hired Ron Washington, formerly the Rangers manager up until last year, and he may help with the position players. Hopefully, Washington can be a boost to the team. The A’s are 13.5 back of the Astros, who are playing excellent baseball @ 28-16. The Astros beat the Tigers 3-2 yesterday in Detroit, though the Tigers had taken the first two games in the series. The two teams’ series concludes today with Roberto Hernandez (2-3, 3.99)  going against Anibal Sanchez (3-5, 5.60).

The Tigers are 26-18 and 3 back of the stud-like Kansas City Royals, the defending American League champion, who are 28-14.
Ironically, David pitches against the A’s on Tuesday night in Oakland against Jesse Chavez (1-4, 2.89 1.14 WHIP) with a 9:05 PM CT/10:05 PM ET opening pitch. Will be a late night with the Tigers and A’s. I look forward to it,. Sonny will pitch again at home Friday night vs. the Yankees and Chris Capuano (0-1, 12.00 ERA).
The A’s were my pick to win the World Series over the Cards in my preseason blog, but they’ve been decimated by injuries to key pitchers and position players. But they have some guys coming back in June, so if they can get on a little streak here, maybe they can get back in the AL West mix. Tigers are right there. Will have more on David and Sonny on Tuesday.
Pedro was two for four yesterday with his eighth homer and 19th and 20th Ribeyes as the  Bucs beat the Mets, 8-2. Pedro has gotten his average up to .233 which isn’t great, but it was at .218 about a week ago so that’s a pretty good improvement. The BUcs heat Matt Harvey and the Mets. That was their second straight over the Metropolitans. The Pirates are now 20-22, 6.5 back of the Cards, who are at 27-16. Bucs are loaded with talent, so they could start making a run if they could sweep the Mets today. Would love to see El Toro start going off.
Will have a breakdown of our baseball team’s NCAA details on Tuesday along with Brandt, Jon, Sonny and anything else that comes across the hopper. Just need to get it done today and I think we’ll have a national seed and host the regional, and if we win that, the Super Regional. Philip Pfeifer pitched very well on Friday going a complete seven innings in our 16-1 victory over the Crimson Tide of Alabama. John Kilichowski was awesome in relief yesterday of Walker Buehler in our 12-3 victory over A&M. John didn’t allow one runner to reach base in five innings of work. Phil was impressive Friday. If he can get his control down, he can really help us in the NCAA’s as a starter. Kilo looks like he could possibly be a starter if we need him in the tournament. We might want to definitely use him as a starter. Very impressive stuff.
