Gators roll

OK, call me the village idiot on Sat. I went brain dead when I  took a chance and picked Georgia, but the Gators destroyed the Dawgs and their porous defense, their repeated boneheaded penalties and their shoddy sportsmanship.

Georgia is an average team at best and  below average in the intelligence department. They are petty and got shellacked by a much more poised and potent outfit.

Florida now looks like the team to beat once again. They put it all together on Sat. Tim Tebow, how else can you describe him? Tremendous, terrific, ultra tough; simply the best player in college  football.

Florida and Alabama are on a collision course to meet in Atlanta. Of course, the Tide has to take care of business next week and get their offense going against LSU if they want to move on in the national championship tournament that is the regular season. And Auburn looks a lot better today.

The Tigers were great. Gus Malzahn quieted his critics with his game plan which was superb and run to perfection for the most part. Walter McFadden and Antonio Coleman played like studs on defense, and Ben Tate ran like a gazelle. The Tigers have themselves in a bowl now and want to accomplish bigger things this season including  knocking off the Tide.

It’s getting better and better every week.

Sad qb situation at SC

When is Spurrier going to recruit a good qb? They are terrible at qb and have been for a while.

Vanderbilt is quite possibly the worst team in the FBS. I hate to say it because I went there. It’s a great school besides football.

Terrible at qb

South Carolina has the worst quarterback in the SEC. When is Spurrier going to recruit a good quarterback?
Vanderbilt is the worst team in Div. 1. I hate to say it because I went there. It’s pretty sad.

Big day on the Plains

Auburn needs to get it done today. They have struggled so much offensively, but they have some playmakers, and they’re at home, so maybe it’s turnaround day for the Tigers.
I like Mario Fannin at rb. If he doesn’t fumble, he’ll be a good compliment to Ben Tate. Auburn needs this game badly.

Florida-Georgia should be good. I think Ga can give them a game. Could almost predict a Ga victory. All right, I’m going to go out on a limb and do it. The way Ga ran all over Vandy a couple of weeks ago, it looks like their offense has arrived.  A.J. Greene is awesome. Could very easily be wrong on this, but you have to take chances.

Other big game is Tenn-SC. Kind of like Spurrier to get it done, though it’ll be tough in Knoxville. Spurrier’s defense is so good, so is UT’s, for that matter. Look for a 17-14 like game.

Enjoy the games.

football report-getting interesting

I think you throw Alabama, Florida and Texas in a hat, all three of them could come out as your first pick. It’s tight this year. Personally, I think Alabama has the best team, particularly if McElroy gets it together. He has playmakers at wideout and tight end, he just needs to get them the ball.
Texas has improved defensively from last year, so they’re pretty strong, too. Colt McCoy is a solid quarterback, if not great.

Florida is a little confusing to me. They are loaded no doubt, but haven’t clicked on offense this year. Maybe they’re so confident that they can win, that no matter how they play, they’ll win. The winner of the SEC championship game (in all likelihood Al vs Fl) should play Texas in Pasadena for the national Championship. I know that’s not a news breaking item, just my two cents.

Like Mark Ingram for the Heisman right now just over C.J. Spiller of Clemson. Both are exceptional backs. If Alabama runs the table and Ingram keeps averaging 100 yards and scoring td’s, he should secure it in Dec.

Yanks back in it

A.J. Burnett was masterful and Pedro just didn’t have enough gas in the tank as the Yankees evened up the Series at one. Burnett was awesome, allowing just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts.
Burnett had been struggling a little bit with his control in the playoffs, but had it going in the game two. What looked like it could possibly be a Phillies blowout if they won last night, turned into a Series.

Pedro Martinez was good, but like C. C. Sabathia the night before for the Yanks, he threw too many pitches. The Yankee hitters worked him deep in the count, and,  like Sabathia, he gave up two home runs. Charlie Manuel made a mistake putting him in in the seventh; he was gassed and should have come out. New York proceeded to score another run and then Rivera put it away in the eighth and the ninth. Rivera wasn’t totally in control, but was good enough.

The big story of the night was Burnett’s pitching and the home runs by Tex and Hideki Matsui. That’s all the Yanks needed and now they’re back in it.

Phils look unstoppable

The Phils looked like a machine last night. Cliff Lee was the dominant pitcher last night, not Sabathia. Lee struck out 10 and allowed an unearned run in a complete game six-hitter. I know I picked the Yankees, but it was a tough call, I knew the Phillies were capable, and now they’ve got some serious momentum with Pedro going against A. J. Burnett tonight. Pedro’s a gamer and Burnett has struggled somewhat in the playoffs. If the Yankees want to win the world championship, they have to win tonight. If the Phils go up 2-0 and go back to Phlly for three, then it could be over.

If you want to see the perfect baseball player, watch Chase Utley. He doesn’t put up huge numbers like Albert Pujols or Ryan Howard. He puts up great numbers though, and is the consummate baseball player. He hit two home runs off Sabathia, a lefty. Utley bats left-handed. He is the heart and soul of the Phillies team. There are some great players on this team, but Utley is their leader.

The Phils are looking tough going into game two, almost unstoppable.
