All this money being thrown at golf now is a little disheartening to watch. It’s taking the fun and the spirit of competition out of the game. Now that a new group, led by Boston Red Sox owner John Henry and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, has thrown in $3+ billion into the PGA coffers, well, just more of an embarrassment of riches. They’re trying to hold off the Saudis from poaching more PGA players, but there’s also a business/money angle to it as well. It’s too much.
For the fun of the game and for you, my readers, here’s my pick.

I would take Rory but all he seems to be doing is talking about a PGA-LIV merger. Give me the quiet one Scottie Scheffler and I like N Hojaard as my kind of longshot.
Thanks, Bama G.
I like your Hovland pick. He won the amateur at Pebble Beach in 2018. Great vibes, unfortunately not match play this time around. Also, I like Morikawa with his experience with the funky grass, po-anna, on PB greens.
Thanks, Spike. Good pick.
I’m on Hovland
Webb Simpson and Spieth love this track and do well.
Hope the Dunlap kid has a good week.
DW am interested in you giving us a good overview of how this new deal will work. Agree the $$ are insane. Glad the players are looking to own their league though
Mike, I’ll try to do that in a later column. There are no real concrete details on the new purse sizes or what’s in it for the PGA players.I know it’s a great development for them. It’s several very wealthy sports owners led by John Henry of the Red Sox, and the goal is to keep the PGA players right where they are. The entity will be PGA Enterprises, and this group, SCG or something like that is behind it. But no details as yet on what this means for the players. Much larger purses and paydays for the Players is my guesstimate. I’ll keep you and everybody else apprised.
Rain, rain, rain,…..Great venue. Hope to see some golf today, Sunday.
War Eagle with the big second half in Oxford last night.
Thanks ’80. Yes, AU looking sharp. Big game Wednesday at the jungle with another hot team.
