Quarterfinal Playoff Predictions for Today and Thursday

Tuesday, SU: 1-3; Overall: 165-63, 72%; ATS: 0-4; 118-108, 52%

Predicting how 18-22 year olds are going to perform on a given day, like Jalen Milroe!, is like getting a root canal. It’s hard and it’s painful. But you keep on trying anyway….

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

No. 5 Texas (12-2) vs. No.4 Arizona State (11-2)

I like Sark and the Horns to advance to the semis to face the Oregon-Ohio State winner, below.

Texas 34, Arizona State 20

Seems like Oregon, as the Number one seed, would get the Penn State draw and face an SMU or a Boise State, instead of Ohio State. Still, I like Coach Dan Lanning, quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who is a guy who should have won the Heisman over Travis Hunter? Really?, to prevail in the Granddaddy of them all.

 Oregon 31, Ohio State 30

Thursday

Sugar Bowl

No.2 Georgia (11-2) vs. No.7 Notre Dame (12-1)

Caesar’s Superdome, New Orleans, 73,208. Tragic early morning event in the city as some psycho killed 14 people and injured dozens others with a pickup truck. Really sorry for the city. The game has now been postponed to Thursday to regroup from the tragic attack on innocent people by the now shot dead perpetrator, who claimed to be a part of the Islamic State.

Without an injured Carson Beck, it’ll be Gunner Stockton under center for Georgia. It looks pretty daunting for the Bulldogs as Notre Dame is playing like a juggernaut right now; but I love the resilience of this Georgia Bulldogs football team. Kirby Smart’s teams remind a lot of Nick Saban’s teams. Even when you counted the Crimson Tide out when they were the rare underdog, they still found a way to get the job done, just like Kirby’s teams are doing now. While Georgia is favored by a point, many experts are picking the Fighting Irish. It’ll be tough and should be a heckuva game, just like the Rose Bowl will be, but in Kirby and the Dawgs I trust. Rest pay cash.

Georgia 28, Notre Dame 24

  1. Happy New Year, DW! Looking forward to all three games. Can’t argue at all with your predictions. Just a gut feeling that the Irish might prevail, but gut feelings usually take a backseat to thorough analysis, which is why I like reading your blog. Let’s grab lunch soon! JBC

  2. I was woefully wrong on all games. Yesterday. Time to regroup. I agree with you on all picks so you may be in big trouble.
