Dans goes Oppo Yard, Braves take a pair, Sonny, Walker, Yaz, Sam Selman today
Dansby Swanson hit an opposite field homer to right off one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball, Gerrit Cole, a 2 run shot, in the bottom of the third in the first game, and registered a single and scored ahead of Freddie Freeman’s game winning 2 run homer in the second game of a twinbill as the Braves swept the New York Yankees, 5-1 in the first game, and 2-1 in the nightcap.
Dans is now hitting .319 with 4 homers and 18 Ribeyes.
The Braves move to 18-12 and are 2 games ahead of the Marlins, who are at 14-12.
Atlanta is off today, then go to Philadelphia for a 3 game weekend set at the Phillies.

Sonny Gray faces the Milwaukee Brewers today at 4:10 PM CT. Sonny pitching well. Hopefully they’ll play. With the shooting in Kenosha, WI. last week, there were postponements of games yesterday, both the Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers, among others, cancelled their games, and Sonny was scheduled to pitch yesterday. Hoping he’ll get that opportunity today. Sonny is 4-1, with a 2.21 ERA and an 0.98 WHIP, an awesome number that wins a lot of games for your team. All those numbers do. Sonny faces Adrian Houser of the Brewers. He is 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Should be an interesting contest.
Walker Buehler, who was lights out in his last start against the Colorado Rockies, going 6, giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, with 0 walks and 11 K’s, is at Yaz, Sam Selman and my SF Giants today for a doubleheader with the first game commencing at 3:05 PM CT. The Giants will throw young stud Logan Webb against Walk. Webb is 2-2 with a 3.29 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He’s 23 and has a very bright future and showing signs this season like he’ll be a really fine pitcher for the Giants, starting this year.
Walker is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. Good WHIP. As I wrote in my column 2 days ago, Walk had a 5.49 ERA in his first 4 games last year and in his next 9, he recorded a 2.47 ERA, so he’s starting to get heated up.
I’m very conflicted here. Want Walk to do well, of course, and I picked the Dodgers to win the World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays in my All Sports Blog before the season started in July, but my heart is with Yaz, Sam and the Giants.
I want the Giants to win it late when Walk is out of the game, with a Yaz long one.
The Giants and Dodgers play the second game of the twinbill today at 6:05 PM CT. Clayton Kershaw is pitching for the Dodgers. Kershaw is back to being Kershaw after an injury riddled season last year. The 32 year old southpaw is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA and an 0.79 WHIP. That’s tremendous.
The Giants are undecided on their starter. Wish they’d go with Sam. He’s a lefty and has been excellent for the team out of the bullpen.
Should be a fun day of baseball. Full report tomorrow.
