Four-star linebacker coming to Nashville

Four-star linebacker Josh Smith out of Murfreesboro, Tn. has committed to Vanderbilt! This is a huge pickup. Josh, a 5.8 four-star by Rivals and a 91 four-star by 247, picked us over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, State, Penn State and that school in the eastern part of the state among many others. Josh’s older brother, Emanuel, is a four-star signee who is an incoming freshman defensive back-cornerback. Watched film on Josh and loved it. Josh closes deals on tackles. He hits you, you’re going down. He’s 6’4″, 219, and I saw him on film playing mainly in the middle; but Josh said that Derek has told him he’ll play inside and outside linebacker in our 3-4 defense. Outstanding pickup here.
Josh is now actively recruiting three or four more four-star players to come to Vanderbilt. Josh announced his decision at the Nike Opening in Oregon, a showcase event for rising high school seniors. Josh will most likely major in Bio-Medical Engineering. Excellent young man, and excellent football player. Jesse Johnson of Vandysports.com wroite today that we will have 10 commits by August 1. We have seven now.

Just got another huge commit for 2015, which is ranked the number one class in the country by Perfect Game.com. Lost five to the Majors from this ’14 class, which hurts some, but we still have an excellent class in ’14 and ’15 is en fuego. AND, we have an excellent team coming back next season.
Super closer Adam Ravanelle has signed with the Tigers (excited to see Adam compete in the majors when that happens), Vince Conde and Jared Miller have not signed, Conde was drafted by the Yankees in the ninth round; not sure about Jared, Tyler Beede, of course, signed with the Giants, and Brian Miller has signed with the Cubs.Everybody else is coming back. That’s exciting.
