Sophomore shooting guard Nolan Cressler is transferring to Vanderbilt. 6’4″ guard who averaged 16.8 ppg for Cornell. Nice addition. Nolan will not be eligible for this year’s team (2014-15) per NCAA transfer rules, but will be on the team in 2015-16. Could really help us. VU basketball setting up well for the future. Also we got a visit from 6’8″, 260 power forward Sean Obi from Rice. If Sean comes our way he would not be eligible this year, but would be eligible in 2015-16 as well. Will keep you posted on Sean. Nolan will have two years to play once he starts in 2015-16. I like the direction of our basketball program. Hopefully we can land Sean too, and Kedren and Josh make it back for next year. Excited about the future.
It’s been a struggle for our weekend rotation in baseball, but hopefully we can work out the kinks and start playing the kind of baseball we’re used to. Lost two out of three to A&M. Just got to get better production in all facets of the game starting with our starters on the weekend.
Rays lost Matt Moore, one of their top starters, for the year with Tommy John surgery. Alex Cobb, another frontline starter, is on the DL with a strained oblique. Rays are going to have to power through these injuries and some other pitchers are going to have to step up. The two sure things are Dave and most of the time Chris Archer though he got rocked by the O’s last night in Baltimore, 7-1. The good news is that Ryan Flaherty had two run scoring singles and played third for the O’s. Rays need to regroup.
Pirates’ game with the Reds was suspended last night due to rain after seven. The game was tied 7-7 and the Bucs hit six home runs in the game. Pedro didn’t have one of them. They’ll finish the game today at 5:30 PM ET/4:30 CT then play their regularly scheduled game with the Reds @ 7:10 PM ET/6:10 CT.
Braves beat the Phillies, 9-6, and A’s beat the LA Angels, 3-2.
Hopefully, football replay is tomorrow night. It’s not on the guide on CSS, but I was told by the VU media relations it is on tomorrow night. If not tomorrow night, it’ll be a week from tomorrow on CSS. Time to be determined. Will keep you posted on tomorrow night.
